Koshu Grape Picking: Yamanashi with World's Highest Quality Grape Varieties
Japan's Top Grape Production Area
Yamanashi Prefecture is Japan's top grape production area, accounting for about 25% of nationwide grape production. Diverse varieties including Koshu (Koshu grapes), Kyoho, Pione, Shine Muscat, and Delaware are cultivated with September-October as the harvest season.
How to Enjoy Grape Picking
In grape production areas including Koshu City, Kofu City, and Yamanashi City, many grape farms accept grape picking in September-October. Grapes can be freely eaten all-you-can in the orchard, and grapes for souvenirs can also be purchased. Harvest timing differs by variety so advance confirmation is recommended.
Village of Grapes and Koshu Wine
Katsunuma and Koshu City are the "village of grapes and wine" with vineyards and wineries lined up. Combined with winery tastings and factory tours, the food culture of Koshu can be thoroughly enjoyed. The "Katsunuma Grape Festival" is held during the autumn grape season.
