Masutomi Onsen is a remote hot spring in Sutama Town, Hokuto City, Yamanashi, an ancient hot spring resort with over 1,200 years of history. Known as one of Japan's hot springs with the highest radon content, "therapeutic waters" visited by therapy-seeking guests from across Japan.
Characteristics of Radium Hot Spring
Masutomi Onsen spring quality is carbon dioxide-containing sodium-chloride spring, also called "Masutomi Radium Onsen." Source temperature is low at 25-30°C as "tepid water," but soaking for long warms the body. Said to have medicinal effects on chronic diseases, cold constitution, and high blood pressure.
Mizugakiyama and Remote Drive
Masutomi Onsen is located near the climbing trailhead of "Mizugaki-yama," one of the 100 Famous Mountains. Mizugaki-yama popular with climbers for its granite strange rocks, the combination with Masutomi Onsen is the highlight of mountain travel.
