Yamanakako Diamond Fuji: Miracle of the Sun Setting at Mt. Fuji's Summit

🗻 Yamanashi|May 11, 2026

What is Diamond Fuji?

Diamond Fuji is a phenomenon where the sun appears to shine like a diamond at the moment it rises (or sets) from Mt. Fuji's summit. A phantom spectacle that can only be seen from specific locations at specific seasons and times, with the Fuji Five Lakes area known as ideal observation spots.

Diamond Fuji from Yamanakako

From Yamanakako's north shore (near Panorama Dai), Diamond Fuji can be observed approximately twice a year around late October and mid-February. The combination of inverted Mt. Fuji reflected on Yamanakako's lake surface and the sun overlapping the summit is also called "Double Diamond Fuji," one of the world's best photography spots.

Four Seasons of Mt. Fuji and Yamanakako

Yamanakako is the largest of the Five Fuji Lakes and one of the lakes closest to Mt. Fuji. Summer allows enjoying outdoor activities and camping, while winter has magnificent Mt. Fuji snow scenery and frozen Yamanakako scenery.
