Yatsugatake Highland: Refreshing Journey Through Majestic Mountains and Highland Resorts
Yatsugatake Mountains
Yatsugatake is a mountain range straddling Yamanashi and Nagano prefectures, composed of many mountains with Akadake (2,899m) as the highest. Characterized by distinctive mountain forms created by volcanic activity, mountain leisure including climbing, trekking, and skiing can be enjoyed.
Kiyosato and Nobeyama Highland Resorts
Kiyosato and Nobeyama districts at the foot of Yatsugatake are famous as highland resorts at 1,000-1,400m elevation. During the Showa high-growth era they were popular as centers of youth culture, with many pensions, restaurants, and farms concentrated. Fresh soft-serve ice cream can also be enjoyed at Kiyosato Farm.
Highland Flowers and Autumn Foliage
Yatsugatake Highland is a place to enjoy seasonal flowers — spring has orange azaleas, summer has alpine plants, and autumn has beautiful foliage. Especially during autumn foliage season it is busy with many tourists enjoying drives and hiking.
