Okiagari Koboshi
Okiagari Koboshi (Roly-poly Doll) is a traditional craft product from Fukushima's Aizu region passed down since ancient times. Made of papier-mâché with a weight at the bottom, it always rights itself no matter how many times it is knocked over.
History and Significance
- Regional folk toy made since the early Edo period with encouragement from the Aizu domain - Traditional to purchase at the New Year's opening market (Toka-ichi on January 10) - Custom to buy one more than the number of family members for good luck

Small sizes start at a few hundred yen — buying multiple as souvenirs is recommended. The "Tezukuri Mura" (Handcraft Village) in Aizu Wakamatsu also offers making experiences.
