Gifu Local Sake Culture

Gifu Prefecture has clear rivers including Nagaragawa, Kisogawa, and Hidagawa flowing, blessed with cold climate, known as a high-quality sake production area. Sake breweries with individual character gather in the Hida region (Takayama, Hida Furukawa) and Mino region (Gifu City, Ogaki City, Gujo City).

Hida Local Sake

Multiple sake breweries are densely concentrated in Hida Takayama producing dry sake known as "Hida local sake." Sake brewery tours and tastings can be done at breweries in Takayama City including "Niki Shuzo" and "Harada Shuzo." Sake brewery touring combined with walking the Takayama old townscape is popular.

Mino Local Sake

The Mino region has sake breweries with individual character distributed centering on Gifu City and Ogaki City. Brands including "Michizakari" (Toki City) and "Kozaemon" (Mizunami City) are nationally highly evaluated.
