Kushiro Shitsugen
Spanning 18,290 hectares in eastern Hokkaido, Kushiro Shitsugen is Japan's largest wetland and the first Japanese site registered under the Ramsar Convention in 1980. It is internationally renowned as habitat for the special natural monument red-crowned crane.

Tips
Visit December–March to see overwintering cranes. Bring binoculars for the best birdwatching experience.
