Akashi Sea Bream

Outstanding Fish Raised in Turbulent Currents

Akashi Strait, flowing between Awajishima Island and Honshu, is one of Japan's fastest tidal currents reaching up to 17km/hour. Akashi sea bream raised in these turbulent currents is known as the highest quality sea bream with firm flesh and concentrated umami.

Akashiyaki

Akashi's specialty "akashiyaki (tamagoyaki)" is a B-class gourmet sometimes called the ancestor of takoyaki. Round dumplings of wheat flour, eggs, and octopus are eaten by dipping in dashi broth (clear soup) โ€” different from Osaka's takoyaki in eating style.

Uontana Shopping Street

"Uontana Shopping Street" in front of Akashi Station is a fresh fish market with over 500 years of history. Fresh Akashi seafood like sea bream, octopus, and conger eel lines the stalls, also famous for freshly landed fish from the signature "hiru-ami" (afternoon net fishing).

Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and Science Museum

The 3,911-meter Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is the world's longest suspension bridge. Akashi City, where longitude 135ยฐE and the prime meridian of Japan run, has the Akashi Municipal Planetarium for enjoyable planetarium shows.
