Mt. Rokko: Treasure of Nature and Mountain of Views for Kobe Citizens
Mt. Rokko
Birthplace of Modern Mountain Climbing
Mt. Rokko was first climbed by British A.H. Groom in 1884, known as the birthplace of modern mountain climbing and hiking. The Rokko Full Traverse Trail (about 56km) is popular with experienced hikers.
Arima Onsen
Arima Onsen at the northern foot of Mt. Rokko is one of Japan's oldest hot springs. Two types exist — "gold spring" (rusty-red water containing iron) and "silver spring" (colorless, transparent water) — attracting hot spring fans from nationwide.
Rokko Garden Terrace
"Rokko Garden Terrace" near the summit is a spectacular viewpoint overlooking Kobe, Osaka, and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. The beauty of night views is a representative photography spot for Kobe's night views counted among "Japan's Three Great Night Views."
Rokko Pasture
"Kobe Rokko Pasture" on the mountain allows encounters with sheep, goats, and horses. Dairy products like cheese and butter unique to the highland are popular Rokko Mountain souvenirs.
