Kanazawa is sometimes said to have "Japan's highest Japanese confectionery consumption," a leading Japanese confectionery production area. Tea ceremony culture flourished since Kaga domain days, developing the culture of high-quality confections (Namagashi fresh sweets, Higashi dried sweets) served at tea ceremonies.

Kanazawa Japanese sweets have various famous confections. "Rakugan" is representative of pressed confections, with Kanazawa's three great confections including "Chosei-den" and "Koshi no Yuki" known. Fresh confections molded after seasonal flowers and scenery have artwork-like beauty.

Tour of Old Established Japanese Confectionery Shops

Many old established Japanese confectionery shops continuing from the Edo era are concentrated in Kanazawa City. Traditional flavors can be enjoyed at shops with over 100 years of history including "Moroe-ya," "Morihachi," and "Nakata-ya."
