Myoryuji Temple (Ninja Temple): Mysterious Temple Harboring Kanazawa's Secrets
Kanazawa's Ninja Temple
Myoryuji Temple in Kanazawa City is affectionately known as the "Ninja Temple." While not an actual temple where ninja lived, it is a temple with complex structure said to have been built by Kaga domain in preparation for political crises, with trap doors, hidden doors, secret rooms, and seppuku rooms throughout.
Labyrinth-Like Building Structure
The exterior appears to be 2 stories, but the interior is actually a complex structure of 7 layers and 9 stories, with 29 rooms and 23 staircases intertwined. The structure is complex enough to get lost without guidance, making a guide essential for viewing.
Viewing Precautions
Viewing Myoryuji Temple is by reservation with guided tours. Photography is prohibited, so actually visiting and experiencing is essential. Located within walking distance from central Kanazawa City, it is recommended to tour combined with Nishi Chayagai.
