Seto Ohashi Bridge: A World-Class Bridge Born from Showa's Grand Civil Engineering
The Seto Ohashi Bridge, opened in 1988, is a 37.3-kilometer combined road and railway bridge connecting Kojima, Kurashiki City in Okayama Prefecture with Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture. A complex bridge with six bridge structures (Minami and Kita Bisan-Seto Bridge, Iwaguro-jima Bridge, Yoshima Bridge, Shimotsui-Seto Bridge, and Hitsuishijima Bridge) connected via 5 islands, it is certified by the Guinness World Records as the world's longest combined railway and road bridge.
Views from Yoshima Parking Area
"Yoshima Parking Area" at the bridge's midpoint is a base for Seto Ohashi Bridge tourism. The observation deck offers panoramic views of the bridge and the Seto Inland Sea's many beautiful islands. Since you can stop at Yoshima by car, it is also popular as a rest stop during drives.
Views from Shimotsui District
On the Okayama Prefecture side, "Shimotsui District" is known as an ideal spot for viewing Seto Ohashi Bridge. The Seto Ohashi Bridge viewed looking up from the Shimotsui coast, which retains a fishing town atmosphere, is particularly beautiful at dusk and night.
Seto Ohashi Bridge from Sakaide City
Spectacular views of Seto Ohashi Bridge can also be enjoyed from "Banshu-no-shima Park" and "Yoshima Fishermen's Wharf" in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture. The Seto Ohashi Bridge Commemorative Museum (Sakaide City) allows learning about the history of the bridge's construction.
