Takamatsu Port: The Gateway to Seto Inland Sea Tourism and Morning Ferry Culture
Takamatsu Port: The Starting Place for Seto Inland Sea Island Journeys
Takamatsu Port in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, is Shikoku's premier tourism port with ferries and high-speed boats to Seto Inland Sea islands gathered here. Routes to numerous islands including Naoshima, Teshima, Megijima, Ogijima, Shodoshima, Awashima, and Ibuki Island are maintained, serving as the departure point for "island hopping" tourism.
Morning Ferry Culture
Ferries used daily by local island residents operate from early morning, with tourists also boarding to head to the islands. The Seto Inland Sea scenery seen from ferries proceeding through morning mist is exceptional. Day trip island journeys of "taking the morning ferry, having lunch on the island, and returning in the afternoon" are popular courses.
Takamatsu Port Passenger Terminal
The Takamatsu Port Passenger Terminal renovated in 2019 is a facility with stylish design. Souvenir shops, cafes, and tourist information centers are gathered, available before and after departure. The area around the port is also a scenic sunset spot.
Access and Transportation
Excellent access approximately 5 minutes on foot from JR Takamatsu Station to Takamatsu Port. Checking ferry timetables to each island in advance is recommended.
Island Hopping Tips
For "island hopping" visiting multiple islands in one day, utilizing inter-island connections is efficient. Confirm sightseeing time required for each island in advance and enjoy with a schedule that has plenty of time.
