Cape Ashizuri: Spectacular Views at Shikoku's Southernmost Point Created by the Kuroshio Current
Cape Ashizuri in Tosashimizu City, Kochi Prefecture, is a cape jutting out at Shikoku's southernmost point (32ยฐ43' north latitude). The sheer cliffs where the Kuroshio Current directly strikes and the white Ashizuri Lighthouse are spectacular spots conveying the grandeur of the Pacific Ocean.
Ashizuri Lighthouse and Observation Deck
"Ashizuri Lighthouse" (first lit in 1914) standing on the cliff is an 18-meter white lighthouse. Strolling the promenade around the lighthouse, the deep blue sea of the Kuroshio and rough spray below can be enjoyed. From the observation deck, the horizon appears round, allowing you to feel the roundness of the Earth.
