Hiruzen Highland in Maniwa City, Okayama is a highland area at 600-1,000 meters elevation spread across the southern foot of Mt. Daisen on the Tottori-Okayama border. Popular as a summer retreat with its cool climate, it also has ski areas in winter. As one of the Chugoku region's leading tourist destinations, approximately 2 million tourists visit annually.
Jersey Cattle and Highland Dairy Products
Hiruzen Highland is nationally known for raising Jersey cattle. Jersey cows have higher fat and protein content than ordinary Holstein cows, producing milk with rich, deep flavor. Milk, soft ice cream, cheese, and yogurt produced at highland farms are exquisite and popular with tourists.
Climbing the Three Hiruzen Peaks
The "Three Hiruzen Peaks" (upper, middle, lower) connecting north of Hiruzen Highland all have climbing courses developed at 1,000-1,202 meters elevation for enjoyment as summer, autumn, and winter mountains. Autumn beech forest foliage in particular is beautiful, attracting many hikers.
Genghis Khan and Hiruzen Gourmet
Hiruzen's specialty gourmet is "Hiruzen Genghis Khan." This grilled lamb and highland vegetable dish with special sauce has established itself as Hiruzen's unique food culture.

About 15 minutes by car from Yonago Expressway Hiruzen IC. Highway buses also run from Okayama and Tottori.
