Washuzan and Kojima: Spectacular Multi-Island Sea Views from the Denim Town

Kojima in Kurashiki City, Okayama developed as the center of Japan's textile industry, known in particular as "the birthplace of domestic denim (jeans)." Since Japan's first domestic jeans were manufactured in Kojima in 1965 (Showa 40), many denim fans visit this "jeans sacred site."

Kojima Denim Street

"Denim Street" in Kojima city is a tourist street lined with local denim manufacturers and factory direct stores. High-quality domestic denim can be purchased at local prices, and custom order jeans experiences and dyeing experiences are also enjoyable.

Spectacular Views from Washuzan

"Washuzan" at the southern tip of the Kojima Peninsula is a small 133-meter mountain, but from the summit (observation deck) spectacular views of the Seto Inland Sea's multi-island sea and Seto Ohashi Bridge can be seen. The "multi-island sea spectacular view" with hundreds of islands dotted throughout has beauty like the Japanese Aegean Sea.

Shimotsui Fishing Village and Specialty Octopus

The Shimotsui fishing port area spread at the base of Washuzan is known as an octopus producing area. Shimotsui octopus cuisine (octopus rice, octopus sashimi, octopus tempura) is a specialty gourmet of Kojima tourism.

Access

About 20 minutes by bus or car from JR Seto Ohashi Line Kojima Station toward Washuzan.
