Teshima Art Museum: Sacred Place of Contemporary Art and Miraculous Architecture on Seto Inland Sea Island
Teshima, a small island floating in the Seto Inland Sea, belongs to Tonosho Town, Shozu District, Kagawa Prefecture. Since the "Setouchi Triennale" of 2010, it has attracted worldwide attention as a sacred place of contemporary art, attracting many art fans from both Japan and abroad.
Teshima Art Museum: Miracle of Architecture and Nature
"Teshima Art Museum" is a museum created through collaboration between architect Ryue Nishizawa and contemporary artist Rei Naito. The concrete shell structure building using no steel frame or columns, with a 60-meter major axis water droplet shape, is built overlooking terraced rice fields. Inside the building, Rei Naito's "Bokkei (Mother)" is installed as a single "work," with countless drops of water welling from small holes in the floor expressing "the birth of life."
Teshima's Terraced Rice Fields and Agriculture
Teshima overcame past illegal industrial waste dumping problems, with islanders and supporters joining forces to restore terraced rice fields. Now beautiful terraced rice fields producing "Teshima rice" spread throughout, becoming a model for the coexistence of art and agriculture.
Other Teshima Art Facilities
Beyond Teshima Art Museum, Teshima has multiple art facilities including "Archive of Heart Beats" and "Teshima Yokoo House."
