MIHO MUSEUM: Art Museum of Utopia Appearing in the Mountains
MIHO MUSEUM
Architecture Inspired by Utopia
MIHO MUSEUM was designed with the motif of the Chinese "Peach Blossom Spring" (utopia story). About 80% of the building is buried underground, highly regarded as environmentally considerate architecture harmonizing with nature.
Masterpiece by I.M. Pei
Designed by architect I.M. Pei, also known for the Louvre's glass pyramid. The building appearing beyond a tunnel and suspension bridge gives the sensation of wandering into another world.
Rich Collection
The museum holds a wide collection from ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art to Silk Road artifacts and Japanese, Chinese, and Korean Buddhist art. Special exhibitions held several times yearly are also popular.
Spring Cherry Blossom Avenue
About 200 cherry trees are planted along the access road to the museum, with spring visits enjoying cherry blossom tunnels on the way in. The cherry blossom season particularly draws many visitors.
