Taga Taisha is a venerable ancient shrine with Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto as main deities. As a shrine to the two deities who created Japan, it is known for many blessings including matchmaking, severing bad connections, longevity, and childbirth.
Connection to Taiko Hideyoshi
Toyotomi Hideyoshi prayed at Taga Taisha for his mother's recovery from illness, offering large quantities of rice in gratitude. From this episode, Taga Taisha became widely known as offering "longevity amulets."
Itokiri Mochi
"Itokiri mochi," a specialty of Taga Taisha's approach path, is a three-colored rice cake confection with purple and red lines in white mochi. Purchasable at long-established shops near the grounds, popular as worship souvenirs.
Taga Taisha Grand Festival
The "Taga Festival (Ancient Example Grand Festival)" held April 22-23 annually is a formal festival based on Toyotomi Hideyoshi's pilgrimage visit, with mikoshi processions and performing arts dedications attracting many worshippers.
