๐Ÿ—ป Shizuoka|May 11, 2026

Birthplace of Deep-Steamed Tea

Kakegawa City is located in western Shizuoka, nationally known as the birthplace of "fukamushi-cha (deep-steamed tea)." Deep-steamed tea is tea made by steaming tea leaves for a longer time (about 2-3 times longer) than usual, characterized by mellow, rich umami and rich aroma.

Shizuoka: Tea Production Area

Shizuoka Prefecture is Japan's top tea production area, accounting for about 40% of Japan's tea production. Tea fields spread throughout various areas including Makinohara Plateau, Mt. Fuji foothills, and Tenryu River basin, with especially spring new tea season (April-May) offering beautiful tea field scenery.

Kakegawa Castle and Tea Village

Kakegawa City has "Kakegawa Castle" with Edo-era castle tower faithfully reconstructed. Tourism combining Kakegawa Castle known as the "Tokai Famous Castle" with surrounding tea farms and farm stands is popular.
