World's Only Sakura Shrimp Fishing Ground
Sakura shrimp live in the deep sea (200-400m) of Suruga Bay as small transparent shrimp about 4cm long. Yui and Oigawa waters in Suruga Bay are known as the world's only fishing ground, landed twice in spring (March-June) and autumn (October-December) fishing seasons.
How to Taste Sakura Shrimp
At Yui Port, restaurants gathering allow eating freshly landed sakura shrimp on the spot. "Fresh sakura shrimp kakiage (tempura fritter)" is superb dish only eatable in Yui with sakura shrimp sweetness and umami concentrated. Kakiage-don, kakiage soba, and seafood bowl are also popular menu items.
Sun-Dried Sakura Shrimp
In the Yui area, scenery of sun-drying harvested sakura shrimp on the beach can be seen. The sight of cherry-pink sun-dried sakura shrimp spreading on the beach is spectacular, also popular as a photography spot.
