Japan's Three Great Buddhas
Takaoka Great Buddha in Takaoka City, Toyama is counted as one of Japan's "Three Great Buddhas" alongside the Great Buddha of Nara and Kamakura. It is a bronze Amitabha Buddha seated statue, about 15.85m tall and weighing about 65 tons. The current Great Buddha is the 3rd generation completed in 1933.
Crystallization of Takaoka Copperware Techniques
Takaoka Great Buddha is a work concentrating Takaoka's proud copperware industry techniques, created with cooperation of casters and metal craftsmen nationwide. It can be called the culmination of 400 years of Takaoka copperware history.
Access and Surrounding Sightseeing
Takaoka Great Buddha is located in central Takaoka City within walking distance of Takaoka Station. Nearby are Takaoka Kojo Park (national historic site) and Zuiryuji Temple (national treasure), allowing half-day touring of Takaoka city. National treasure Zuiryuji Temple is a Zen Buddhist temple built as the bodhi temple of Maeda Toshinaga with Edo-era architecture remaining.
