Kokeshi Doll Villages

The region centered on Obanazawa, Yamagata, and Naruko area (Osaki City, Miyagi) is a major production center for traditional Tohoku kokeshi dolls. Kokeshi are wooden dolls turned on a lathe and hand-painted, with various regional styles existing throughout Tohoku.
