Dadacha-mame Edamame
Dadacha-mame is a traditional local edamame variety from Tsuruoka's Shonai region in Yamagata โ a special edamame created by the soil and climate of Shonai. Far sweeter and richer in umami than regular edamame.
Characteristics
- Origin: The Oizumi district of Tsuruoka is the birthplace; they don't taste the same grown anywhere else - Harvest Period: Early August through September (peak during the Bon and late-season varieties) - Flavor: Much sweeter and richer than normal edamame; a distinctive aroma when boiled - Varieties: Multiple varieties including Shiroyama dadacha and Jinroku dadacha

Tips
Dadacha-mame is fresh produce โ tastiest eaten close to the production area during harvest season. The "Bon period" around mid-August is when flavor is at its peak.
